Drawing Room Confessions
ISSUE #2 / Jason Dodge
(…) Being a reader is a creative act. It is really important to me to be a reader as well as a maker. The way that I read is somehow inherently selfish because my objective is to make something myself. The process of reading can simply be to read one or two lines and then really think about them for a long time. Not necessarily to think about them but actually to think about myself. One of the keystones of creativity is the misunderstanding of something. I guess the misunderstanding sometimes has to do with a fracture between intention and perception. (…)

Made of words and exchanges, with no images, Drawing Room Confessions is open to diverse practices and voices. It is named after a game played at the end of the nineteenth century in England and France, which consisted of a fixed questionnaire answered by players to reveal their tastes, aspirations and personalities. For every issue of the journal, one artist is invited to play the serious and playful game of conversation. Each section follows a set of rules, only the players change, as interviewers from a wide range of fields contribute to a portrait of the artist at a certain time.
